There are 98 pieces including tires, basic decal sheet with 2 optional license plates at Skill level 2. Use a light touch and be careful not to rub paint over any part that should remain clean.<br \/>\n<a title=\"belair03 by dougcole2000, on Flickr\" href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/29474631@N04\/5082367063\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/farm5.static.flickr.com\/4107\/5082367063_2d7f78c663.jpg\" alt=\"belair03\" width=\"500\" height=\"311\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nFigure 3<\/p>\n<p>When done, the paint should remain on the recessed areas of the chrome.\u00c2\u00a0 Let this dry completely before proceeding.\u00c2\u00a0 This is a good time to detail the running lights if wanted.\u00c2\u00a0 Paint them carefully or use the correct color Sharpie<sup>TM<\/sup> marker to color them in.\u00c2\u00a0 The marker over chrome will make it look almost clear.<br \/>\n<a title=\"belair04 by dougcole2000, on Flickr\" href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/29474631@N04\/5082962470\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/farm5.static.flickr.com\/4104\/5082962470_c49ec0e9bf.jpg\" alt=\"belair04\" width=\"500\" height=\"280\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nFigure 4<\/p>\n<p>The engine block was painted blue with brush paint, allowed to dry completely, then the 2 pieces glued together.\u00c2\u00a0 This kit gives 2 options for the motor, stock or custom.\u00c2\u00a0 This kit was built using mostly stock parts except for the parts #84 &amp; #58 (exhaust headers) #18 (fan belt) and #20 (alternator).\u00c2\u00a0 This was a builder\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s preference; any parts can be interchanged as desired.\u00c2\u00a0 This was chosen to give the motor a little spice for that street rod effect.\u00c2\u00a0<br \/>\n<a title=\"belair05 by dougcole2000, on Flickr\" href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/29474631@N04\/5082962060\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/farm5.static.flickr.com\/4092\/5082962060_2ebe84c7f9.jpg\" alt=\"belair05\" width=\"500\" height=\"323\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nFigure 5<\/p>\n<p>A little thinned black paint was washed over the exhaust header and chrome valve covers following the same procedure used for the grill.\u00c2\u00a0 The air cleaner was covered with gold Bare Metal Foil<sup>TM<\/sup> for a custom effect.<\/p>\n<p>The engine was a straight forward build per the directions with no problems.\u00c2\u00a0 There are lots of options with this kit.\u00c2\u00a0 Test fit everything before putting it together.\u00c2\u00a0 Remember to scrape chrome or paint off any gluing areas before applying the glue for a proper bond.<br \/>\n<a title=\"belair06 by dougcole2000, on Flickr\" href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/29474631@N04\/5082367275\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/farm5.static.flickr.com\/4154\/5082367275_6676b5742a.jpg\" alt=\"belair06\" width=\"500\" height=\"282\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nFigure 6<\/p>\n<p>There was quite a bit of clean up to be done on the body before painting.\u00c2\u00a0 There was flashing around the windows, die lines at the top of the fenders by the windshield posts, the top of the fenders were a little sharp and around the tail lights needed to be cleaned up.\u00c2\u00a0 Most of these were just from the dies and required a light sanding with a fine emery board and 400 grit sandpaper.\u00c2\u00a0 A sharp Exacto<sup>TM<\/sup> knife may also be needed to clean up some of the edges.<\/p>\n<p>When showing these issues on the sample model, a Sharpie<sup>TM<\/sup> marker was used to point them out.\u00c2\u00a0 If you mark these areas the same way to indicate where clean up is needed make sure ALL the marker is removed before painting or it will bleed through during the painting process..<\/p>\n<p>A light sanding with 1000 grit sand paper, wash with dish soap and warm water, dry completely, wipe down with a clean cloth and the model is ready for paint.<br \/>\n<a title=\"belair07 by dougcole2000, on Flickr\" href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/29474631@N04\/5082962252\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/farm5.static.flickr.com\/4112\/5082962252_b3f351319e_m.jpg\" alt=\"belair07\" width=\"240\" height=\"115\" \/><\/a> <a title=\"belair08 by dougcole2000, on Flickr\" href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/29474631@N04\/5082962354\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/farm5.static.flickr.com\/4125\/5082962354_917ba1e05a_m.jpg\" alt=\"belair08\" width=\"240\" height=\"128\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nFigure 7 &amp; Figure 8<\/p>\n<p>Krylon<sup>TM<\/sup> paint products were used for this model.\u00c2\u00a0 Two light, even coats of white primer were applied first with 15-20 minutes of drying time between coats. Apply the primer carefully.\u00c2\u00a0 If you get runs in the primer, wait for it to dry completely then wet sand with 1000 grit sandpaper lightly.\u00c2\u00a0 Try not to sand all the way through the primer or you will have to re-prime.\u00c2\u00a0 If you do not get any runs or sags in the primer, a light wipe with a bit of t-shirt material will be all you need.\u00c2\u00a0 The fabric has enough texture to wipe away any dirt nibs or dust and leave a smooth surface.<\/p>\n<p>The model was painted with three light, even coats of Krylon<sup>TM<\/sup> Ocean Blue.\u00c2\u00a0 Allow at least 15 minutes of dry time between coats.\u00c2\u00a0 After the paint was completely dry, two light coats of Duplicolor<sup>TM<\/sup> Crystal Clear was used for a gloss sealer.\u00c2\u00a0 Normally, it is suggested to use the same brand of products all the way through.\u00c2\u00a0 The builder has found, however, that this combination works just fine.<\/p>\n<p>After the clear coat has dried completely (at least 24 hours) a fine, non-abrasive polish was used to shine it up.\u00c2\u00a0 In this case, Mothers<sup>TM<\/sup> \u00c2\u00a0brand polish was used.<\/p>\n<p>A short note about the crazy looking paint stand seen in the pictures.\u00c2\u00a0 It&#8217;s made from a couple pieces of 2&#215;4 and a wire hanger.\u00c2\u00a0 This is proof that something does not have to be fancy to work well.\u00c2\u00a0<br \/>\n<a title=\"belair09 by dougcole2000, on Flickr\" href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/29474631@N04\/5082962642\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/farm5.static.flickr.com\/4125\/5082962642_b249e6a496.jpg\" alt=\"belair09\" width=\"500\" height=\"368\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nFigure 9<\/p>\n<p>There were two options for the chassis rear end assemblies, custom and stock.\u00c2\u00a0 On this build the stock version was used.\u00c2\u00a0 The custom version seemed to be just a little too tall.\u00c2\u00a0 Again, this is a builder\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s preference.\u00c2\u00a0 One unfortunate part of this kit is that the muffler and exhaust pipes are molded into the chassis instead of being separate.\u00c2\u00a0 It would have been nice to see separate parts for these. The engine and chassis assembly went nicely, everything lined up well to the molded parts and no adjustments were needed.<br \/>\n<a title=\"belair10 by dougcole2000, on Flickr\" href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/29474631@N04\/5082367625\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/farm5.static.flickr.com\/4125\/5082367625_fee1512c60.jpg\" alt=\"belair10\" width=\"500\" height=\"265\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nFigure 10<\/p>\n<p>The interior also had a couple options for stock or custom, including bucket or bench seats and a stock or custom steering wheel.\u00c2\u00a0 There is also a roll bar for the custom version.\u00c2\u00a0 Again, any parts can be interchanged as desired.\u00c2\u00a0 For this build, the bench seat and stock steering wheel were used. The dash panel was painted with bottle paints; there were no decals for the dash.\u00c2\u00a0 The steering wheel was painted to simulate wood.\u00c2\u00a0 Fine line black and brown Sharpie<sup>TM<\/sup> markers were used to accent the wood.<br \/>\n<a title=\"belair11 by dougcole2000, on Flickr\" href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/29474631@N04\/5082367213\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/farm5.static.flickr.com\/4130\/5082367213_f7dc47a2b4.jpg\" alt=\"belair11\" width=\"500\" height=\"262\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nFigure 11<\/p>\n<p>The seats were painted with a semi-gloss spray paint then given a light wash of reduced flat gray paint (brush on\u00c2\u00a0then dab with a paper towel).\u00c2\u00a0 The black area on the seats was painted with a semi-gloss brush paint.\u00c2\u00a0 This is a good place to experiment to get the look you want.<br \/>\n<a title=\"belair12 by dougcole2000, on Flickr\" href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/29474631@N04\/5082962144\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/farm5.static.flickr.com\/4127\/5082962144_ef3a7126e8.jpg\" alt=\"belair12\" width=\"500\" height=\"333\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nFigure 12<\/p>\n<p>Assemble the interior pan and chassis.\u00c2\u00a0 Everything fits well here and there were no problems. The wheels and tires included in this kit were not used for the build.\u00c2\u00a0 Instead, the front wheels and tires from a Monogram<sup>TM<\/sup> 57 Chevy<sup>TM<\/sup> kit, the rear wheels chosen were after market\u00c2\u00a0five slot steel wheel, and the rear tires were after market\u00c2\u00a0&#8220;cheater slicks&#8221;.\u00c2\u00a0 This was just a preference and gave it more of an old school street racing look.<br \/>\n<a title=\"belair13 by dougcole2000, on Flickr\" href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/29474631@N04\/5082367335\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/farm5.static.flickr.com\/4144\/5082367335_232449ff8b_m.jpg\" alt=\"belair13\" width=\"240\" height=\"137\" \/><\/a> <a title=\"belair14 by dougcole2000, on Flickr\" href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/29474631@N04\/5082367739\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/farm5.static.flickr.com\/4112\/5082367739_3efbed7802_m.jpg\" alt=\"belair14\" width=\"240\" height=\"210\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nFigure 13 &amp; 14<\/p>\n<p>The underside of the wheel wells and hood were painted with flat black brush paint.\u00c2\u00a0 This is not necessary, but gives a more finished look.<br \/>\n<a title=\"belair15 by dougcole2000, on Flickr\" href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/29474631@N04\/5082367159\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/farm5.static.flickr.com\/4107\/5082367159_7917c0d881.jpg\" alt=\"belair15\" width=\"500\" height=\"418\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nFigure 15<\/p>\n<p>After the body was painted and polished, three types of Bare Metal Foil<sup>TM<\/sup> were used on the features.\u00c2\u00a0 Chrome foil was used around the windshield and rear window frames. Aluminum Bare Metal Foil<sup>TM<\/sup> was used around the side window frames.\u00c2\u00a0 Gold chrome Bare Metal Foil<sup>TM<\/sup> was used for the drip rails and side body moldings.\u00c2\u00a0 The colors were a personal preference.\u00c2\u00a0 These parts could be painted if you have a steady hand, good eyes and a good brush.\u00c2\u00a0 The effect will not be the same though.<br \/>\n<a title=\"belair16 by dougcole2000, on Flickr\" href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/29474631@N04\/5082367529\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/farm5.static.flickr.com\/4144\/5082367529_d16942cfcd.jpg\" alt=\"belair16\" width=\"500\" height=\"272\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nFigure 16<\/p>\n<p>Before putting the bumpers on, the body was test fit onto the chassis.\u00c2\u00a0 On this kit, there were no problems with the fit and no adjustments needed to be made.\u00c2\u00a0 Putting the front grill was the trickiest part since there were four parts.\u00c2\u00a0 The fit was a bit of a challenge, so the inside of the grill needed a little sanding to get the parts to fit better.\u00c2\u00a0 Also, the inside of the bumper needed to be sanded a bit to fit around the grill.\u00c2\u00a0 These parts were mocked up several times before they were actually glued into place.<\/p>\n<p>The rear bumper\/tail light assemblies went together easily and without issue.\u00c2\u00a0 Remember; always scrape chrome off the gluing areas for a better bond.\u00c2\u00a0 This cannot be stated enough.<br \/>\n<a title=\"belair17 by dougcole2000, on Flickr\" href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/29474631@N04\/5082367901\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/farm5.static.flickr.com\/4148\/5082367901_7e34d959c0.jpg\" alt=\"belair17\" width=\"500\" height=\"333\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nFigure 17<\/p>\n<p>This was a very nice kit with lots of optional parts, choices and styles. The parts not used can go into the spare parts box we all seem to have.\u00c2\u00a0 One of the nicest things about this kit was that everything seemed to be straight and fit well, very few adjustments needed to be made.\u00c2\u00a0 The grill was the hardest challenge.\u00c2\u00a0 One thing that would have been nice to offer was the wheel\/tire combination that came with the kit.
