Don Garlits – Tony Gibson<\/p><\/div>\n

Back in 1964 the Don Garlits Swamp Rat VI set records for speed, 200mph in Detroit, Michigan, and 201mph in Green Meadows, NJ.\u00c2\u00a0 His 392c.i. Dodge came to life with over 1300hp and light weight of 1,320lbs.\u00c2\u00a0 It had the Swinger Chassis and \u00e2\u20ac\u0153sling shot\u00e2\u20ac\u009d body designed by Garlits.\u00c2\u00a0 This front engine dragster was the most common before an accident when an engine blew and Don lost half his foot.\u00c2\u00a0 Garlits was the first to design the safer rear engine dragster that we see today.\u00c2\u00a0 Even in his early days he was a safety innovator.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

For the Modeler:<\/b> Even though this kit is long out of production they can still easily be found at online auction sites and garage sales. This is a skill level 2, 1:25 scale, AMT Don Garlits Wynn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Jammer Top Fuel Front Engine Dragster model kit. It includes over 85 parts molded in gray, chrome, body molded in clear, and waterslide decals.\u00c2\u00a0 The direction sheet for the build is very clear and states color choices for the parts.\u00c2\u00a0 The rear tires have the winged Goodyear molded in, the front tires are molded in gray plastic with Pirelli molded in. AMT gave this a 2 rating (for intermediate builders) but in my opinion this kits is tougher than that and might be considered a 3 (experienced builder).\u00c2\u00a0 You always need to be looking at what comes next.\u00c2\u00a0 This build took approximately 45 hours (If it had been painted it would have taken a little longer). Keep the glue off the windshield, Tony.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
