The NKL-26 was introduced by the Soviet Union in 1941 during WWII.\u00c2\u00a0 It was essentially a plywood box mounted on four skis and propelled by a propeller driven by a radial aircraft engine that was produced for the M-11g Soviet aircraft. They were manned by a two-man crew consisting of the driver and the commander\/ machine gunner. They were armed with a single 7.62mm machine gun mounted to the top on a ring mount, which allowed for 360 degree traversing.\u00c2\u00a0 They could also carry 4 to 5 passengers riding on the skis and pulled 4 more behind on ropes. I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122m not sure I would want to be on skis behind an unguarded propeller in case of accident. The Aerosan was equipped with 10mm of armor on the front panel only, so they were not used in full direct attacks but more so for reconnaissance, communication vehicles, and transportation vehicles. The light weight of the Aerosan allowed it to travel over deep snow at speeds up to 35 Km\/h.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
