The Impala name was resurrected for the 2000 model year as the “Hi-Mid” program to replace the Lumina. Based on the Lumina’s W-body platform, it was built at Oshawa Car Assembly in Oshawa, Ontario, Canada. Unlike the earlier Impala built on a B-body, this one was front-wheel drive and was available with a choice of two 3.8L V6 engines, and slightly smaller 3.4L V6 engine. A new Impala SS with a supercharged V6 was brought out for the 2004 model year. Also released was a Police Package, first in 2000, and Undercover Police Package, released in 2001, named 9C1 and 9C3 respectively. Available only to law enforcement agencies, fire departments, and EMS agencies, it had more success than its predecessor, the Lumina 9C3. The 9C1 was basically a base model with a stronger suspension and the 3.8 liter (231 cu in) V6 engine. It was only available in a few basic colors. Another addition was the “SURV MODE” switch which replaced the fog light switch found on the LS. This enabled the driver to turn off all lights in the vehicle and “hide”; something not allowed with the civilian models as automatic headlights were standard. The 9C3 was comparably equipped to the 9C1, but the ability to add other convenience options and more paint and interior choices set the 9C3 apart.<\/span><\/p>\n

For the Modeler:<\/b> This review is based on the Revell # 85-1928 1\/25 Chevy Impala Police Car SNAP-TITE kit. This kit is Skill level 1 for the beginning builder and contains about 40 parts. The kit is molded in White, Blue, Black, Chrome, Clear and Red and Blue Clear and has Vinyl Tires with metal axles and screws. This kit was released in 2006 and has only this box art version with some minor updates in subsequent re-pops. It is being re-boxed for the European market and released again as kit #80-7068 in April 2014. There are no chassis parts as it is one molded unit but with detail painting it will look OK. The interior is nicely detailed for a Snap kit and has dash instrument stickers. The body is one piece and includes the lights and grille installed. The kit\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s graphics are stickers for beginners, two law enforcement departments are included but I used an aftermarket set of decals for this build. I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ll show how you can \u00e2\u20ac\u0153personalize\u00e2\u20ac\u009d this kit to produce a police unit of your choosing. \u00c2\u00a0For a more experienced builder this will make a nice \u00e2\u20ac\u0153shelf sitter\u00e2\u20ac\u009d with detail and paint work. Overall dimensions of the finished build are: Length: 8-1\/4″, Width: 2-3\/4″, Height: 2-1\/4″.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
