This is one of Tom Daniel’s most famous, groovy, boss custom machines. \u00c2\u00a0It made its first appearance back in 1968 and has been re-released several times over the years due to its popularity with model builders and collectors. One of the things that made this Red Baron stand out is the cool triple-winged Red Baron plane that brings this hot rod full circle. This custom rod was once displayed nation-wide in its full-size form. With its chrome, spiked helmet design and radical stance, this kit has truly stood the test of time.<\/p>\n

For the modeler:<\/strong> This is a review of the Red Baron by Tom Daniel 1:24 Scale Monogram Model Kit #85-4258. It is a skill level 2 1:24 scale kit for the intermediate builder. The kit contains 63 parts molded in red with chrome plated parts and black vinyl tires. This kit was re-released in 2009 and they are still available at hobby shops and online stores. It also features a custom six cylinder engine and includes a miniature Fokker tri-plane kit. Here comes the famous Red Baron! This kit really shows its age.\u00c2\u00a0 There’s quite a bit of flashing and rough edges on the parts.\u00c2\u00a0 The chrome, for some reason, doesn’t have that bright and polished look to it.\u00c2\u00a0 Monogram has made a lot of improvements on the chrome with its newer releases.\u00c2\u00a0 The tires, once again, are generic, with no brand labels.\u00c2\u00a0 It would be nice to see the label prints on the tires like they used to have.\u00c2\u00a0 The airplane is also pretty basic. The direction sheet hasn’t changed a bit and shows just enough so you know how parts go together.\u00c2\u00a0 There still might be questions about correct locations. This is a pretty basic model, though, so using the direction sheet and test fit everything to make the build go well. The decals look good; simple black and white without a lot of “flash” around them.\u00c2\u00a0 They are clear and crisp. Have fun and keep the glue off the windshield, Tony.<\/p>\n
