Although there were earlier muscle cars the GTO is considered by some to have started the trend with all four domestic automakers offering a variety of competing models. In 1969 a new model called the “Judge” was introduced. The name came from a comedy routine, “Here Come de Judge”, used repeatedly on the Rowan & Martin’s Laugh-In TV show. The Judge routine was made popular by legendary showman Sammy Davis, Jr. In the late 60s and early 70s some of the most exciting cars you could see at the drag strip were the Nitro-Methane powered Funny Cars. While the outer body was different the chassis’ were all very similar. The tubular frame was simplistic and held a monster motor, the 455ci Pontiac was the favorite of the “Judge” Drivers. These cars put out tons of horsepower sending the Funny Car to a blazing 250 MPH, 7 second Quarter Mile! All the cars ran a Fiberglass body designed after a Stock style street car. The muscle cars of the day were some of the most popular styles with many of the drivers. Arnie “The Farmer” Beswick was one of the more notable drivers that had a ’69 GTO, his was “the Super Judge”.

Â

For the Modeler: This review covers the Model King Re-Release (Re-Pop) of the AMT ’69 GTO Funny Car. This is Kit # 21891P in their catalog and is a Limited Edition run of the kit. This kit can still be found for sale in hobby shops and online. This kit has seen multiple Box Arts over the years and has been around well over 40 years. It seems the molds have been cleaned up and repaired as there is little Flash on this kit compared to previous versions, and the moldings are very crisp too. This is a Skill Level 2 for the Moderate Builder although no ratings are given on the box. The build consists of 92 parts molded in White, Chrome, Clear and Clear Red and has Vinyl tires. There are two sheets of decals, one being all new and a BONUS reproduction of the Vintage AMT “Here Comes the Judge” 57 T-Bird (Kit#T-235-7) decals. You get a nicely detailed motor with the ability to add extra details. The tubular frame needs construction as it is multiple parts. The body is a single cast with minor mold lines and is STOCK if you want to use it for other builds. The tires are a matching set of front Skinnies and mismatched rear Slicks, one each Goodyear and Racemaster. Overall dimensions are: Length: 8”, Width: 3”, Height: 2-1/14”.

Covered in this Review: If you want to perfect your build; basic construction; preparing parts for better finishing; alternate assembly sequence suggestions for fit and ease of finishing; complete paint and adhesive selections and applications; test fitting; working with full sheet decals; complete gauge cluster detailing; chassis detailing; adding and detailing the wheelie bars; making realistic wheels; constructing the wheels and axles; dashboard detailing suggestions; front and rear suspension build sequence; chassis installation; correcting the steering column, interior construction; building and detailing the blown 455 cid engine; removing unwanted copyright script; using “clear” glue for the windows and glass; using floor polish to make crystal clear windows; version considerations; rear tire brand cautionary note; correcting the motor mount; fuel pump issue; where NOT to use glue; using optional gauge props; comparative kit history; installing the kit’s spare parts; using Alclad Candy Paint for a spectacular finish; Making the trim stand out with foil; identifying and removing mold lines; decal preparation and application; using a scratch built distributor; using black wash to detail the grill; are all fully examined in this extensive 17 page, full-color Step-by-Step review in PDF format.

100% money back guarantee!

Click the Buy Now link below to purchase the full Step-by-Step review for $2.95 USD.

Important – You MUST click on the “Return to Right on Replicas, LLC” link after you’ve made your purchase to download your review!

Right On Replicas, LLC ©2015 All rights reserved. *All registered trademarks are the property of their respective brands.
