Designed to take passengers from the train to their destination, the station wagon quickly evolved into the family transport of choice for millions of Americans. The ’57 Ford offered both 4-door and 2-door wagons. They featured Ford’s new bow-shaped frame, along with a revised suspension for an improved ride. The impetus for the creation of the Del Rio was Ford\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s desire to remain in the two-door sport wagon market started by the Chevrolet Nomad and Pontiac Safari and the decision to discontinue the company\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s original attempt at a sport wagon, the premium Parklane, which failed to entice buyers during 1956, its only year in production. While the Nomad was Chevrolet\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s most expensive model, offering a premium vehicle with a show car-inspired body style, the Del Rio was strictly based on an existing product, the utilitarian two-door Ranch Wagon, Ford\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s least expensive station wagon, as part of the Custom 300 series.<\/p>\n

For the modeler:<\/strong> This review covers the Revell release, under the Monogram name, of the Del Rio Ranch Wagon as a 2n1 kit in 1\/25 scale. This is kit #4193 in the current catalog and is an All New Mold. Rated as a Skill Level 3 this kit is for advanced builders. The \"000b\"<\/a> kit comes in 156 parts molded in White, Chrome, Clear, and Clear Red and includes Vinyl tires. You get the option of two Rio wagon version builds: Police package with roof light, screen, and radio; or a factory standard vehicle. Both styles use a detailed 312c.i. Thunderbird V-8 that can be even more detailed with aftermarket accessories. The kit has a separate frame to make the chassis detailing much easier and even more authentic. The interior is crisply molded and can be done as a stock or the included police items version. The body is straight and has great moldings and crisp detail. The decals are well detailed and include police and stock options. The instructions are typical of Revell\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s newer style books with highly detailed layouts. Overall dimensions are: Length: 8″, Width: 3″, Height: 2-3\/8″.<\/p>\n
