The U.S.S. Springfield had a long and decorated career serving in two different classes, commissioned in 1944 as a Cleveland light cruiser. Serving in the Pacific at the end of WWII earning two battle stars, its primary role was anti aircraft support; however, did do some off shore bombardment during island invasions.\u00c2\u00a0 In 1957 it was taken to the ship yards and three years later returned to service in the Mediterranean as flag ship for the 6th Fleet. It had been converted to a Providence class guided missile ship, serving in the 70’s as flag ship to the 2nd Fleet. Finally in 1974 it ended its career and was scrapped.<\/p>\n

For the Modeler:<\/strong> This review covers the Re-release of the U.S.S. Springfield by Revell under the Renwal Blueprint Series. This is a Skill Level 4 kit and is in 1:500 scale. This kit contains over 100 parts molded in light gray. The kit includes waterslide decals and paper signal flags.\u00c2\u00a0 The kit itself has seen multiple releases since the original 1960\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s release. Renwal included decals \"Box<\/a> for U.S.S. Springfield (#7) only. The overall construction is straight forward and the build goes together well. As this is an older mold design, you\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ll need to take your time and test fit the parts and remove any flash or pin marks you find.\u00c2\u00a0 Final dimensions are: Length: 14-3\/4\u00e2\u20ac\u009d, Width: 1.5\u00e2\u20ac\u009d, Height: 5\u00e2\u20ac\u009d.<\/p>\n
