If you’ve ever hit the top of a hill in an open street rod at “high” speed then you’ll know what fun driving one can be. Building this kit is almost as much fun as the thrill of 120 MPH wind in your hair. This model is part of the Revell “Classic Cruiser” series and one of the best kits around. There is virtually no flash; parting lines and sinks are kept to a minimum and the suspension is easy to build yet realistic when assembled. Let me just say it – you’re going to love this kit! The stance is perfect and the parts fit together precisely.

For the modeler – As good as this kit is straight out of the box, there are a few things you’ll need to know if you’re going to take this awesome ride to the local model contest. A couple pin mark locations and a design consideration will need to be addressed to make this a knockout showpiece. The decals – although they are top notch also need a little coaxing. See the Step-by-Step review for all the details. This kit features 75 pieces molded in white with excellent flame graphics and decals with soft black “fatties” and generous chrome parts.

Street Fighter by Tom Daniel 1:24 Scale Monogram Model Kit #85-4262 Review

Remember back to the late sixties and early seventies when the only “cool” station wagon was one that was turned into a street racer! Well, this was exactly how those drag buggies looked and I think more than one hot-rodder got their inspiration from Tom Daniel. As Monogram says, “Tom Daniel’s at it again, taking a classic ’60 Chevy® delivery sedan – and turning it into the Street Fighter Super Car Killer! Kit features a Camaro Z/28 engine, a tilt-up front end, a racing steering wheel, plush boat-type buckets, a custom “GO” pedal, a reverse-flow hood scoop, front end spoilers, chrome-plated accessories, wide black vinyl tires, mag wheels, a roll bar and more.”

For the modeler: This is the Monogram kit #85-4262, known as the Street Fighter, a custom 1960 Chevy Panel Truck that is 1: 24 scale, and a Skill Level 2 kit for the intermediate builder. The pieces are molded in orange, chrome, and transparent red styrene with 000b black vinyl tires and water slide decals. There are 72 pieces to this kit and very well laid out instructions. This is a reissue of the 1970’s Street Fighter designed by one of the famous car designers of that era Tom Daniel. I remember growing up looking at this kit on my father’s shelf and honestly I think it was this car here that caused me to fall in love with the tilt nose pieces. This re-release has all the original features which is really great! Revell/ Monogram issued four different versions of this kit and I now have been able to build three of them; Street Fighter, Street Fighter Two, and the Bad Actor. The only version I have yet to acquire is the Quicksilver edition. The dimensions are; Length-87/16” X Width-23/16” X Height-27/16”.

Revell’s 1959 Ford Skyliner kit (SSP #85-7162) is a reissue of the original multi-piece bodied kit issued back when dinosaurs ruled the earth…the same year I was born. It was innovative at the time in the fact that it included a fully-functional retractable “hardtop”, which was a first in model kits when initially introduced.

For the modeler – Although the tooling is quite dated, there is a noticeable lack of “flash” on the majority of the parts in this kit, which I found rather refreshing. It is definitely not for the inexperienced builder, hence the Skill Level 3 classification. Sequence alterations and assembly tricks shown in the review will help make this kit easier to build into a trophy winner. Additionally, I like the fact Revell has given this dated kit a “facelift” of sorts, including whitewall tires and extra decals. An experienced modeler can also deviate from the instruction sheet with no repercussions, as I did…and sometimes it was necessary to do so to achieve the best result.
