F-18 Hornet 999

A SnapShot review by Doug Cole Doug

F-18 Hornet 001 If you’ve ever had the opportunity to see a performance of the Navy’s Blue Angels precision flying team then you know what the word awesome describes. As they thunder through their aerial acrobatics at hundreds of miles per hour you wonder how much practice – and how much nerve it takes to be a member of the team. The kit shown here is a testament to Revell’s commitment to today’s youth. This is a pre-decorated fully equipped F/A-18E Super Hornet that is an easy to assemble 22 piece SnapTite kit. It can be ready to soar through the skies in your child’s room within minutes of opening the box. My eight year old son had it fully assembled in about 20 minutes. Because it’s a Snap together kit – the bombs actually will come off and reattach easily and that makes for some fun playtime in the mind of a young pilot.

F-18 Hornet 000 For the modeler; This kit is meant for children age 8 and above and I found that my son only had trouble with a couple items during its assembly. There is also one typo to be aware of. The box is printed with a model number of 85-1387 but that is incorrect. The instruction sheet shows the correct model kit number as 85-1379. If you go to find this kit online it may be listed under either number. The first thing that came up was in Step 1 where you attach the wing to the upper fuselage half. The kit is shipped with the upper and lower halves pressed together so they must first be separated with a thin blade before the wing can be installed. The only other item was the placement of the under-belly rocket. You need to open up the mounting holes a bit to keep from bending the rocket’s mounting posts. The rest of the kit snaps together easily by following the instructions. You’ll enjoy working with your youngster to assemble this Blue Angel’s jet. Aside from introducing kids to model building; it’s a great looking plane when finished.
