Gemini Space Capsule 1:24 Scale Revell Model Kit #85-1836 Review

Review and Photos by Robert Byrnes Robert Byrnes P47 Thumbnail

Project Gemini was the middle stage of the USA Space Program in our race to the moon.  It came between the Mercury and Apollo programs.  Through these three programs, we gained valuable experience necessary to reach the moon.  The most notable of these was the EVA or “Space Walk” to see if man could survive in space outside of a sealed capsule.  There were a total of 12 Gemini missions between 1964 and 1966.  They all launched aboard the Titan II, which was actually a U.S. Air Force ICBM missile.  The Gemini missions provided information on human endurance, the ability to dock with other vehicles and to perfect the re-entry procedure.  All of these were needed to make it to the moon.

For the modeler: This review covers the Re-Release (repop) of the Revel Kit# 85-1836 in the Selected Subjects (SSP) Series; Gemini Space Capsule 1:24 Scale Revell Model Kit #85-1836. Revell rates this as a Skill Level 2 for the moderate builder. This kit has been around for years with few changes to the kit. The kit consists of 93 parts molded in white plastic with a pilot and navigator figure and some clear “glass” parts. The decals remain the original design but uses Revell’s current high quality printing. Overall dimensions are as follows: •Length: 10″, •Width: 5″, •Height: 9-1/8″.
