Buddy Martin first ran against Ronnie Sox in the early 1960s, and was frustrated by his inability to beat him in a comparable 409 powered Chevrolet. No matter what Martin did, Sox always seemed to have a better reaction time and a faster trip through the quarter mile, and it didn’t take long before Martin made Sox an offer he couldn’t refuse: With a 1963 Chevrolet Impala Sport Coupe on order, equipped with the 427 V-8, Martin asked Sox to step in as his full-time driver. Sox & Martin became the best driving team of the seventies. From 1968 through 1971, the Sox and Martin team utterly dominated the sport of Super Stock (and, from 1970 onwards, Pro Stock) drag racing, taking the NHRA World Championship in 1968, 1969, 1970 and 1971, and capturing the AHRA World Championship in 1969. Their red-white and blue racers were legendary then and are a recognized icon of the motorsports industry even today. By far their greatest achievements came with their HEMI Cuda. Production models of these vehicles are some of the fastest things on the road. But with modifications by Martin and with Sox behind the wheel, the Cuda was nearly unbeatable.

 

 

For the modeler: This review covers the Revell Kit 85-4296 Sox and Martin 70 Hemi Cuda Release in 1/25 scale. The kit Box Artcontains 148 parts molded in White, Clear, Chrome and has Vinyl tires and metal axle pins. Revell rates this as a Skill Level 3 for Advanced Builders. The kit is a CONVERSION kit based on the recent release of the Stock 70 Hemi Cuda and the chassis is Copyright dated 2013. You do get all of the Stock parts aside from the hood and tires and all of the S&M specific parts. Revell seems to have replicated the kit based on the real car quite well. The motor is nicely detailed and has a great set of carbs on the Hi-Rise intake. The chassis is detailed well and simple to assemble but looks good. The body is a single shell with the hood and rear valance separate. NOTE the always hideous and inaccurate front valance that was separate with the lower front fender area that has haunted every Cuda kit of the past is GONE! The decals are very complete for the car and include the Red side panels so you can paint the car White and use decals for the 3 tone Red, White and Blue paint job. The overall size is: Length: 7-3/16″, Width: 3-1/16″, Height: 2-1/4″.
