A staff car is a vehicle used by a senior military officer, and is part of their country’s white fleet. The term is most often used in relation to the United Kingdom where they were first used in quantity during World War I. Military Staff and Command Cars are used for light transportation duties for senior officers and their communications. Some models are based on civilian automobiles, depending on combat or non-combat missions. These were civilian cars — not built to full military specs — just stripped of chrome, painted OD Green and maybe a few cosmetic changes to lights or other features. The War Department manual TM 9-2800 “Standard Military Motor Vehicles” lists two 5-Passenger 4×2 Sedan models: Light: Manufactured by Chevrolet, Ford, Plymouth. And, Heavy: Manufactured by Buick, Packard

For the Modeler: This review covers the Tamiya kit 32559 U.S. Army Staff Car molded id 1/48 scale. The kit consists of 38 parts molded in Gray and Clear Styrene and includes a Metal chassis and one screw. The scale allows this to be added into their Military 000bMiniatures Collection of tanks, planes and other diorama pieces. The kit is simplistic with no motor details and basic interior details. At this size not much would show anyway. The body is well molded and detailed. The kit includes a person to have as a driver. The decals are Typical Tamiya high quality. There is no question this is a basic build with the exterior being highly detailed as to use this in a diorama setting. Being a military car it is all Olive Drab Green making detail painting a breeze! Overall size is Length: 3-3/4”, Width: 1-1/2”, Height: 1-1/8”.
