The Jeep was designed in a crash program in 1941 to be used throughout World War II.  The iconic 4X4 ¼ ton truck was a blend of designs from Willys-Overland, Bantam and Ford and adapted for many roles throughout the war.  By the time it was over, Willys had produced over 300,000 MB’s for service to the allies. Dependable and lightweight they provided crucial command and reconnaissance maneuvers in every campaign. The design eventually led to the development of the Jeep CJ (Civilian Jeep) which has become a familiar sight the world over.

For the Modeler: This is the Tamiya kit 35219 that is 1: 35 scale, and a Skill Level 2. The pieces are molded in olive drab, clear, with waterslide decals. There are 97 pieces to this kit and very well laid out instructions. This is a reissue of the 1990’s 000bJeep Willys MB ¼ ton 4X4 Truck. This is one of four variations Tamiya had out for the Jeep Willys body design. The other three versions are U.S. Jeep ¼ ton 4X4 Truck Willys MB with trailer(35015), British Special Air Service Jeep (35033), British SAS Commando Vehicle 1944 (25152). The dimensions are; 3¾ L X 2 1/8 W X 2 H with the machine gun and 3¾ L X 2 1/8 w X 2 1/8 H with the hood up, 3¾ L X 2 1/8 W X 1 7/8 H with the windshield up, 3¾ L X 2 1/8 W X 1¾ H with Soldier and windshield down.
