Introduced in 2005, the Magnum was the first full sized station wagon to be built since the 1970’s. It has the conventional lines of the station wagon, but this in no ordinary grocery-getter or mom’s taxi.  Lift the hood on this SRT/8 and you will find a massive 6.1 liter (370 c.i.d.) hemi motor that produces a whopping 425 horsepower. With the 5-speed automatic transmission the Magnum can go 0-60 in 5 seconds and run the quarter-mile in 13 seconds.  It also has higher wheel wells and comes equipped with 20 inch wheels. The SRT8 is undoubtedly the fastest (production) station wagon ever made!

For the Modeler: This is a Revell “Streetburner” Series Dodge Magnum SRT8 1:25 Scale Revell Model Kit #85-4059 Review.  It is a Skill Level 2 kit for the intermediate builder. This kit is consists of 110 parts molded in white, chrome and “tinted” and clear windows with water slide decals and four soft vinyl tires. This kit features a detailed engine, suspension, hinged rear tailgate and choice of two wheel styles. The finished kit measures; Length: 7-3/4″, Width: 3”, Height: 2-1/4″.

Overview:  This kit is not too difficult to build.  The instruction sheet is very clear and precise and the pieces fit together very well. Molding of the pieces was very clean and sharp. I painted the engine aluminum color contrary to the instruction sheet because I have never seen a Dodge Magnum with an orange engine. There were just a couple seam lines to trim and smooth out on some minor parts. Probably the most difficulty you will have with this kit is getting the decals to lay down properly and conform to the body contours. These large decals are just about the right thickness to work with but you might find it useful to apply some of the decal setting solutions that are on the market. When you’re done this is a great looking display model – especially with that cool guitar as a prop. Rock on!

In 1968 Tom Daniel designed this Paddy Wagon Show Rod model.  It was the 6th model based on his concepts and drawings that he brought to life for Monogram.  Tom Daniel is the most notable designer for crazy, fun, whimsical show rods and a favorite of many model builders and collectors.  They have truly stood the test of time.

For the Modeler: This is a Monogram Tom Daniel Paddy Wagon 1:24 Scale Model Kit #85-4194 Review.  It is a Skill Level 3 kit for the advanced builder. This kit is molded in dark blue, gold chrome and clear with water slide decals.  Model consists of 88 parts, 4 generic vinyl tires; two slicks for the back and two treaded tires for the front.  It also comes with two pre-decorated police officer characters. Upon opening, this kit looks pretty good.  The gold chrome is very bright and clear.  The chrome is not too heavy and there is no flashing.  The body and chassis look really good, smooth with crisp dies and no flashing.  The roof comes textured for a canvas look.  The directions are fairly basic and “old school”.  Sadly, the tires are generic, with no logo or brand on them, but are correct to the kit and look good.  The painted cop figures are awesome and always a plus with these Tom Daniel concept kits. This was a great kit and fun to build. Once again, Monogram Revell, thank you for bringing it back. These whimsical Hot Rods always look nice on the shelf.  The finished kit measures 7″ L x 3 1/4 ” W x 3 3/4 ” H. Have fun and keep the glue off the windshield!

The Ford line of cars was updated in 1937 with one major change, the introduction of an entry-level 136 CID (2.2 L) V8 in addition to the popular 221 CID (3.6 L) flathead V8. The model was a refresh of its predecessor, the Model 48, and was the company’s main product. At the start of production, it cost $850. The 1937 Ford featured a more rounded look with fine horizontal bars in the convex front and hood-side grilles. The front grille was V-shaped, rather than following the fenders into a pentagon shape, as on the 1936 model. Faired-in headlights were a major modernization found on both the Standard and Deluxe trim versions, though much of the rest of the design was shared between Ford’s two lines. A larger water pump was used to help aid in cooling. The “Fat Fender” design became one of the favorites for “Hot Rodders” to customize.

For the Modeler: This review is based in the Revell # 85-4097 California Wheels version 1/24 scale 37 Ford Coupe Street Rod. This kit is Skill level 2 for intermediate builder and contains 128 parts. The kit is molded in White, Chrome and Clear and has Vinyl Tires with metal wheel pins. This kit has seen multiple box-arts over the years and is a Reissue (Re-Pop). The body is stamped Revell 1994 so it has been around at least 20 years. You get a nicely detailed small block V8 with either carb or fuel injection options. The chassis is simple and clean. You get 2 wheel choices for a Big-n-Little look or the oversized rims look. Two sets of very nice flame decals give you a design option. **Note** My kit was missing the Big-n-Little tires so on Jan 21st I went on the Revell Parts Order website http://www.revell.com/support/index.html and ordered the tires. On Feb 3rd I had replacements in my hand. That was a 13 day turn around on replacement parts, IMPRESSIVE! Overall dimensions of the finished build are: Length: 7-1/8″, Width: 2-7/8″, Height: 2-5/8″.

Covered in this Review:  If you want to perfect your build; basic construction; part preparation; decal preparation and application; flash and parting line seam identification and repair; adhesive selection and applications; detailing the engine; paint selections and application; optional customizing suggestions; version considerations; callouts for contest builders; avoiding instruction errors; chassis and suspension detailing and construction; aligning the exhaust; alternative ride height discussed; optional bumper modifications; removing visible trademarks; removing injection marks; dashboard detailing and decal map; custom floor mats; running board alignment; including undocumented parts; making a black wash for detailing; are all fully examined in this pictorial 16 page, full-color Step-by-Step review in PDF format.
