In 2001, Dale Earnhardt Sr. strode out of his “comfort zone” of Twin 125, Grand National Series, IROC, and NASCAR races and, along with his son Dale Jr., entered the Daytona 24-hour endurance race to complete unfinished business. Although both he and his son handled themselves extremely well, they only managed to finish fourth due to having to stop for repairs during the night. However, their C5-R Corvette maintained a strong lead throughout the race until the breakdown occurred. This model represents the #3 car driven by Dale and his son (along with Andy Pilgrim and Kelly Collins) as a tribute to “The Intimidator” and his legacy, with a couple of modifications.

For the Modeler: This is a Revell Corvette C5-R 2001 Daytona Racer 1:25 Scale Revell Kit #85-2376 skill level 3 model kit was released in 2003 but there are still plenty of these kits around. It also features a highly detailed chassis with a lift-off body and decals to finish either the class winning LeMans car, the Daytona #2 winning car or the Daytona #3 car driven by the Earnhardt team. Finished length is 7-3/8″

Almost everyone loves the sight of an off road monster truck, from little children up to adults. Watching these trucks ramp over cars or even run cars over is very interesting and entertaining. Grave Digger is based on a Chevy panel van body and is one of the most popular and recognizable monster truck on the Monster Jam circuit. Beginning in the early eighties Grave Digger’s popularity skyrocketed when a rival truck failed to show up one day and Grave Digger offered to crush some demo cars as a replacement stunt. As a result Grave Digger became so popular that the owners have built many of these trucks so they can be seen at events all over the country at the same time.

For the Modeler: This Revell Grave Digger Monster Jam Truck 1:25 scale, skill level 1 SnapTite kit #85-1978 is easy to build but looks great on the shelf. It’s perfect for introducing a youngster to the world of modeling. This kit features 35 pieces molded in black, gray, green and clear; easy snap assembly, 3” high monster tires, a complete drivetrain and bright peel-and-stick decals. Although this was an Out-of-Box only review, with a little extra work it could also be the basis for a great replica of the real Grave Digger for the intermediate builder. Finished dimensions are: Length: 8-1/4″, Width: 5-3/4”, Height: 5″.

Covered in this Review: If you want to perfect your build; basic construction; clear coat application; suspension construction; window and headlight installation; altered assembly sequences for fit and finish; adhesive sticker modifications for fit; sticker application; are all examined in this pictorial, 10 page, full-color Step-by-Step review.

The Hot Rod has been around it seems forever. When most think of a hot rod they think of the iconic 32 Ford or “deuce”. The coolest part is one hundred people could build one hundred 32 Fords and each one could look different. Stacy David is the host of the show [Stacy David’s] GearZ and he built the 60’s style 32 Ford roadster that is the “Rat Roaster” on his show. If the Rat Roaster doesn’t get your attention then check your pulse, because this hot rod is certainly an eye catcher! From the bright green paint to gleaming chrome moon tank to the matching custom Gibson guitar, this ride screams cool.

For the Modeler: This Revell 1:25 scale, skill level 2 kit #85-4995 is a very good rendering of David’s Roaster and at 148 pieces; it is very detailed. This kit is designed to build only as the Rat Roaster, but does have a few things that can be changed if the builder sees fit. Looking at the molding it appears crisp with no flash visible which makes sense being this is brand new tooling. This kit features 2 different carb setups, a Rat Roaster guitar figure, optional front fenders and a Stacey David decal set. Finished dimensions are: Length: 6-3/4″, Width: 2-3/4″ , Height: 2-1/8″.
