There are a lot of words that best describe Cadillac. How about these for starters….. beauty, big, luxurious, full of chrome and lets not forget power but yet purrs like a kitten. I can go on and on but I would never get this review done!

When the new release list came out by Revell and this Caddy was on the list, I had to throw my name in the hat for this one!! Before I start my review, there are a few things I need to address. For this kit being a 1/25th scale, I find that this body is way too big for its scale. Yes, this is a big car to begin with. If it should fall into any scale, it should be more in the range of 1/22. My point is, for its scale, it’s out of range of realism.

For the Modeler: It seems like Revell took a short cut on tooling this kit because of the snap-fit style assembly even though glue may be needed at times during assembly to keep the gaps down. On the plus side of this (yes, there is a plus side to this), this kit will make a very easy learning kit for those who are looking to get into the hobby or for someone who wants a simple build. But please be aware, there are some fit issues that you may run into. So I’ll get right to those points. Test fit, test fit, test fit. Because of the age of the tooling and modification from a snap kit some of the main assembly points need to be modified to fit correctly. Corrected part orientations, a custom paint scheme, scratch building the trunk area, interior gaps, “blacking out” the grill area, transmission alteration, cowling and radiator hose modifications for fit, a wheel swap and stock suspension choice are all fully examined in the Step-by-Step review.

The 327 foot endurance cutter Roger B. Taney was in Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. Among the first to fire back that morning, the ship served escort duty throughout the war in both the Atlantic and Pacific theaters. During the Okinawa campaign in 1945, the Taney came under air attacks more than 250 times-surviving some of the heaviest suicide attacks of the war. The Taney also served in the Korean and Vietnam conflicts. In peacetime, the ship has served as an ocean station vessel, a search and rescue ship, and on Alaskan fisheries patrol.

The Taney was formally decommissioned on 7 December 1986 and turned over to the city of Baltimore, Maryland for use as a museum ship. Over her distinguished career, Taney received three battle stars for World War II service and numerous theater ribbons for service in World War II, Korea, and Vietnam.

For the Modeler: This is a skill level 2 kit with 109 pieces. The kit has a detailed deck with 8 depth charge throwers & 2 roller racks, life rafts, boats, davits, searchlights, and railings, engraved hull detail, two-40mm guns, four-20mm guns, 5″ elevating gun in rotating turret, radar, antennas and display stand.  Instruction corrections, gap filing suggestions, color schema, optimal construction sequences, and rigging advice are all explained in the Step-by-Step Review. All-in-all this is a very nice kit to build; it deserves a level 2 rating due to the problems with the deck but a patient modeler should be able to do just fine.

If you are familiar with the history of the 60’s Gasser races, you will know that K.S. Pittman was one of the fiercest competitors out there.

For the Modeler:  This review is of the reissued Revell® 1941 Willys Drag Coupe (kit #85-4990) in 1:25 scale this time with K.S. Pittman decals. On first opening of the box, I was happily surprised to see two sets of grilles, one in plastic chrome and the other is photo-etch.  Felix details how to wire the motor, explains some instruction errors, decal omissions and application techniques, alternate body color choices, foiling the trim, engine color, specific flash removal, valve breather fortifications, and additional chute detailing are fully examined in the Step-by-Step review.

As this was my first ever Willys Drag Coupe model kit that I’ve built, I must say that it’s a great kit for the experienced builders and novice alike. All in all, this is an excellent model kit to build and an enjoyable experience. The instructions are clear and straight forward, with the minor exceptions I mentioned above. The parts goes together with no to very little issues. I would gladly recommend this kit to anyone that wants to build their first Gasser.
