As always, Tom Daniel’s kits are fun to build! This was a nice model for the weekend builder. It went together very smoothly and was truly enjoyable. This would also be a great kit for a first time builder, a younger builder or a father/kid build. Total time for the build was about 20 hours. Skill level 2 was right on. This kit also gives a lot of room for extra detailing and because it’s a custom you can pick whatever colors you want.

For the builder – This is the Monogram™ 1:24 scale Ice-T by Tom Daniel. This kit is a skill level 2 set. It includes 65 pieces including two-piece Racemaster™ wrinkled slicks and clear ice cubes. The kit is molded in bright yellow, has a nice chrome tree that is bright and not too heavy. The assembly instructions were easy to follow and the decal sheet has 12 individual decals featuring sharp, clear colors. There are also a few molding issues to look out for but the parts fit together very well.

When I first got this kit it looked pretty exciting and that continued all the way through. The kit went together beautifully and there is a lot of room for detail. Built as a box stock, you couldn’t ask for a nicer drag model. Revell® did their homework with this kit. From the tooling, the marking, the decals, the details to the mold and the chassis, it was a big WOW! This car took about 50 hours to build. A lot of attention was given to the paint and keeping the build as clean as possible. The 58 piece decal sheet was the toughest part of the whole build, about 8 hours was put in on them alone. If you push this and try to finish it too soon, you could run into trouble. Be patient and careful with the decals – they really make this kit standout.

For the modeler there are several build and instruction errors that need attention when building this kit. There is also an issue with reversed decals. If you get one of these early kits look for the issues described in the full review to avoid them.  Finally, In order to get that Chi Town shine, two types of color coats were used to enhance the candy colored metal flake paints. Attention to detail will really make this build a show stopper. Zoom, Zoom, Zoom!

For some reason the year 1969 seemed to be one of the pinnacle years for muscle cars. Although a lot of high performance cars from the Big Three had premiered in the years before, ’69 seemed to be when the best looks, performance and attitude came together.  Ford, Chevy, Dodge, Pontiac, Buick and Oldsmobile were battling on the oval tracks, drag strips and streets all over the country.

Revell’s® 1969 Mach 1 (Kit 85-4290, fig. 1) is kind of the same in that aspect. I really didn’t appreciate it until I got a close up look and had the chance to build it. Now part of Revell’s® Motor City Muscle Series, this model has been around for a few years. It was a pretty easy build, with the no. 2 skill level being right on the money.  The detail and accuracy is on pace with some of the more expensive kits while maintaining the easy building style.

Overall, this model is a great start for a very well detailed Mach 1, or, build it box stock and it will still get a second look on the display shelf.
