You’ve probably seen one of these icons from the fifties at car shows and wondered, “Where’s the gas tank?†I asked my self the same question after I finally got my newly purchased ’56 running after resurrecting it from the scrap heap. It took a while to figure out that it was hidden in a secret compartment inside the driver’s side rear taillight. I have to admit I must have drawn a laugh at the gas station when I pushed and pulled on every feature of the rear end trying to find that gas cap. I nearly ripped the license plate off with my bare hands! Aside from that, this was a classic car with smooth flowing lines and excellent chrome accents. On top of that it was ripe for customizing too! The new ChevyTM V-8 was nothing short of awesome and with a little work they were blazing fast too.
This is a full build and review of the MonogramTM 1/24 scale ‘56 Chevrolet  BelairTM Classic Cruiser #85-0881. There are 98 pieces including tires, basic decal sheet with 2 optional license plates at Skill level 2. This was a very nice kit with lots of optional parts, choices and styles. One of the nicest things about this kit was that everything seemed to be straight and fit well with very few adjustments needed.Â
For the hobbyist there are three flavors of foil trim used, grill blackout techniques, after market wheels and tires and fit adjustments to the grill are examined in detail in the Step-by-Step review.

If you’ve ever wondered how a pickup truck can out perform a street burner this is an example of just how it’s done. These old school bodies are often customized with muscle carframes and hot V-8’s along with lightweight front ends and custom paint. This is a great kit any way you choose to build it. Choose your favorite colors and go at it. There’s plenty of ways to detail and alter this kit, more than shown here. The Skill Level 2 rating was right on the money.
The mid-’50 series of Ford pickups has attained classic status –at least as far as street rodders are concerned! Little did the original designers and engineers know, as they were putting their pickup truck line together, that one day those little workhorses would be customized and painted in every creative way imaginable. Updated interior with contemporary styling and textures. Detailed 5.0 liter V-8 engine complete with fuel injection. Decals with colorful custom graphics. Molded in white and clear with chrome plated parts and soft black tires.

Who doesn’t remember cruisin’ the highways on vacation and performing a “double-take†when one of these little vans went by the “Family Truckster?† They represented a certain freedom and adventure that “dear ‘ole dad†just didn’t buy into for his clan. Volkswagen began production in early 1950 and there are still a few of these on the roads today, but the numbers are dwindling. Â
Revell makes a trip down memory lane with this updated reissue of the 1958 kit and provides the option of building a ‘US’ or ‘European’ version of the bus. The   European version was chosen to highlight the lights and bumper configuration over the US version, but artistic license was taken for the paint colors.Â
This kit would make an awesome display for any modeler’s shelf and for those old timers that are “stuck in the sixties†it would give you something to gaze upon while you play those good old Grateful Dead records!Â
There’s plenty for the hobbyist in the Step-by-Step review. Dealing with warped parts, special window tinting effects, dry-brushing and foil accents are reviewed.
