The first Chevrolet pickup truck came out in 1924, through in-house designs but did not appear until 1930. From 1957, trucks were available from the factory as 4-wheel drive, and the new class scheme would make this known. A “C” in front of the series number would indicate 2-wheel rear drive while a “K” would denote 4-wheel drive. Actual badging on trucks still carried the series name system from the previous generation. The 1960 model year introduced a new body style of light pick-up truck that featured many firsts. Most important of these were a drop-center ladder frame, allowing the cab to sit lower and independent front suspension, giving an almost car-like ride in a truck. Also new for 1960 was a new designation system for trucks made by GM. Gone was the 3100, 3200, and 3600 designations for short 1/2, long 1/2 and 3/4-ton models. Instead, a new scheme would assign a 10, 20, or 30 for 1/2, 3/4, and 1-ton models. The cab was changed for 1964, with elimination of the “wraparound” windshield and a new front grille design, along with various interior changes. Air conditioning and a 327 V8 came in 1965. A new base engine finished the model in 1966 with a 250 c.i.d Inline Six.

For the Modeler: This review covers the Revell release of the ’66 Fleetside Pickup in 1/25 scale. This is Kit # 85-7225 in the current catalog. The kit represents a 1966 version and is a New Release for Revell but the kit is a Re-package of the 1964 and 1965 1 kits. The Copyright on the parts is 1996. Under Revell’s new Revell of Germany Skill Ratings on US kits this is a Skill Level 4. The kit has 112 parts and comes molded in White, Chrome, Clear and Clear Red with Vinyl tires. You get Waterslide decals and the typical book format instructions. This build has only the V8 engine option and it is quite detailed. The interior is multiple parts with dash decals and seat decals. The chassis is detailed and the suspension is all separate multiple parts. The body is multiple parts and must be partially assembled for painting. The tires are Tampo-print wide Whitewalls. This kit only has parts for a stock build without options for customization. Overall dimensions are: Length: 7-5/8”, Width: 3”, Height 2-1/2”.

Patriot Missile Controller MSQ104 1:48 Scale ARII Model Kit #A683 Review

The Patriot Missile is the Phased Array Tracking Radar to Intercept on Target was designed in the United States and came into service around 1981 to the present. There was over 1106 launchers in the Unites States and over 170 launchers were exported to other countries. Much like RADAR, the LADAR (LAser Detection And Ranging) unit tracks airborne objects but uses laser light instead of radio signals. Some countries that have the patriot missile are; Germany, Egypt, Greece, and Israel however there are other countries as well that have the patriot missile system. The patriot missile system replaces the Nike Hercules and the MIM-23 Hawk. The patriot missile system was originally manufactured by Raytheon however now it is currently being manufactured by Lockheed Martin & Boeing.

For the Modeler: This review covers the ARII kit A682 that is 1: 48 scale, the skill level was not indicated but I would Box Art rate it a Skill Level 3 on the current scale. The trailer kit can be found under the MIcro Ace/ ARII trademark 641538 but online auctions are the most likely source for these 1990’s kits. The pieces are molded in olive drab, and smoke grey clear, metal axles with water slide decals. There are 83 pieces to this kit and very well laid out instructions. The instructions are primarily in Japanese with some English translations. There is an app you can download to your smart phone to translate the instructions. The dimensions are; tractor 7¼” L X 2¾” W X 3-3/8” H, trailer 6-7/8” L X 4-3/16” W X 6-11/16” H, tractor and trailer 12½” L X 4-3/16” W 6-11/16” H.

Int The model was spray painted Rust Oleum Camouflage Olive Drab and detailed with Model Master Flat Black. The soldiers are painted Testors Flat Tan (uniforms), Testors Flat Brown (Camo pattern), Model Master Flat Black (Boots and head phones), Model Master Gun Metal (Sunglasses A19), Model Master Insignia Red (beret A19), Model Master Skin Tone Warm Tint (faces and hands). I added some weathering detail with the Tamiya Weathering Master Set A; sand and light sand.

Overall: There were no flash, sinks, or injection pin errors that I found during the assembly of this kit. One issue I had with this kit is that the tractor could not be identified. Another issue with the kit is there is a soldier in the sitting position however there is no place to accurately place a sitting soldier in the tractor’s cab. This kit did have a place for the soldier in the sitting position to be installed in the controller unit.  I also used the sitting soldier from the ARII A682 Patriot Missile Ladar kit.. There is no real interior in the tractor so the soldier cannot be installed into the interior of the cab anyway. A third issue was the lack of guidance on how to place the decals for the tractor and the trailer. This kit was fun to build and would go great in anyone’s collection especially history and military collectors making a Patriot battery or diorama.

The Chevrolet Corvette, known colloquially as the Vette, is a sports car manufactured by Chevrolet. The car has been produced through seven generations. The first model, a convertible, was introduced at the GM Motorama in 1953 as a concept show car. Myron Scott is credited for naming the car after the type of small, maneuverable warship called a corvette. Originally built in Flint, Michigan and St. Louis, Missouri, the Corvette is currently manufactured in Bowling Green, Kentucky and is the official sports car of the Commonwealth of Kentucky. The seventh generation Corvette was introduced for the 2014 model year. The 2015 model is the first to bear the Corvette Stingray name since the 1976 third generation model.

For the Modeler: This review covers the first release of the new 1/25 Scale Foose 2015 Corvette Stingray by Revell. This is kit #85-4397 in the current catalog and is rated as a Skill Level 3 kit for moderate builders. The kit is a NEW RELEASE with no previous versions available. The build itself is just above a SNAP kit and more of an entry level Glue kit. You get 57 parts molded in Gray and Black with Chrome. The tires are Rubber and it has Metal axles. The glass is clear and clear red with the black window surrounds already printed on the glass. The body comes molded in a Silver Metallic with Black and has Waterslide decals. This kit was designed to be a “transition” kit aimed at moving the novice builder into the glue together category but still allowing for a great looking product to display. as The instruction sheet is a fold-out one page design unlike the typical book format Revell usually has. Overall dimensions are: Length: 6-15/16””, Width: 3-5/16””, Height: 1-7/8””.

Covered in this Review:  If you want to perfect your build; basic construction; preparing parts for better finishing; complete paint and adhesive selections and applications; test fitting; front suspension build; mating the chassis to the body; complete 000b engine construction and finishing; chassis installation; using decal setting solutions for that “painted on” look; dashboard detailing; making realistic looking tires; proper brake caliper orientation; window trim and engine bay detailing; using “clear” glue for glass installation; decal preparation and application; make “carpeting” from craft flocking; tire and wheel differentiation; making custom floor mats and license plates; Making heavy window tint with Alclad II products; proper directional tire orientation; making crystal clear “glass” with floor wax; removing the copyright script; undercarriage construction and finishing; using spare decals to create gauge faces; expanded car and designer history; suspension construction and detailing; are all fully examined in this 15 page, full-color Step-by-Step review in PDF format.
