The Camaro, manufactured by Chevrolet, is classified as a pony car and some versions also as a muscle car. It went on sale on September 29, 1966, for the 1967 model year and was designed as a competing model to the Ford Mustang. The car shared its platform and major components with the Pontiac Firebird, also introduced for 1967. Four distinct generations of the Camaro were developed before production ended in 2002. The nameplate was revived on a concept car that evolved into the fifth-generation Camaro; production started on March 16, 2009. The Camaro received a complete redesign, and new platform for the 2010 model year/fifth generation. Based on the 2006 Camaro Concept. The 2013 ZL1 Camaro included a 6.2 L LSA supercharged V8 producing 580 hp. The LSA motor is the same used in the Cadillac CTS-V and made it the fastest production Camaro to date. Other features included a 2-stage exhaust, the addition of suede seats, steering wheel, and shift knob, as well as ZL1-exclusive 20-inch aluminum wheels. The 2013 Camaro ZL1 is the most technologically advanced Camaro ever made.

For the Modeler: This review covers the release of the Revell 2013 Camaro ZL1. This is a Re-package (Re-Pop) of the Pre-painted kit released earlier and includes a new hood and tire options. The kit is 1:25 scale and is listed as a Skill Level 4 for moderate 1 builders. While it is a re-release of the pre-painted kit this version comes un-painted in White, Chrome, Clear and Clear Red. It has Rubber tires and Metal axles. Parts count is only 60 parts. This is a simplistic build and more geared to the beginning modeler that is able to paint and glue but is not entirely ready for a fully detailed kit. You get a nicely detailed motor. The chassis is molded with rear suspension and most all of the details in it. The interior is basic but well detailed. The body is crisp and lines are good with no major mold line issues. There are two full tire sets, Stock and Custom. The decals are quite extensive with multiple stripe options. The instructions are typical book format. Overall dimensions are: Length: 7-1/2″, Width: 3-1/4″, Height: 2-1/8″.

Designed in 1994 for attacking both other submarines and surface ships with torpedoes, the submarine uses a modern teardrop-shape hull for underwater performance. The hull incorporates four rudders and is propelled by a single propeller. For quieter operation, the engine was mounted with shock absorbers and the hull is plated in rubber tiles for sound deadening. Primary weapon for the Type 039 is the 533 mm Yu-4 torpedo. The main sensor is the medium-frequency sonar mounted in the bow of the submarine, with passive and active modes, which is used for both search and attack. In addition, the system offers a method of underwater communications, and also functions as a torpedo approach warning system. The 039G was redesigned in 2001. (NOTE) On one incident on October 26, 2006, a Chinese Song class submarine “popped up” and “surfaced within firing range of its torpedoes and missiles before being detected” within 5 nautical miles (9 km) of the carrier USS Kitty Hawk while she was operating in the East China Sea between Japan and Taiwan

For the Modeler: This review covers the Hobby Boss 2009 release of the PLA (Chinese) Type 039G Submarine 1:200 Scale Model. This is Kit #82001 in the current catalog. This is a Skill Level 1 kit. It has 48 parts and comes molded in light grey styrene on one tree 000b with a left and right hull, a display stand, one photo etch propeller, waterslide decals and instructions. The instructions are on the back of the box and are very basic.  There is a small but crisp decal sheet but, unfortunately, numerous mistakes both in assembly and part numbering.  Use the full review as a guide for successful completion of this kit. The finished dimensions are approximately Length: 17¼”, Width: 2½”, On Stand Height 6⅛”.

Covered in this Review:  If you want to perfect your build; basic construction; preparing parts for better finishing; alternate assembly sequence suggestions for fit and ease of finishing; complete paint and adhesive selections and applications; test fitting; cautionary notes regarding rail installation; correcting part number assignments; highlighting and detailing the propeller; exterior color scheme masking; how to detail the conning tower; using matte colors for proper luster; correcting instruction errors; display stand suggestions; adding mounting hole locations for parts; suggested tool list; identifying and filling seams and extra sprue attachments; are all fully examined in this 9 page, full-color Step-by-Step review in PDF format.
