In the world of Chevrolet muscle cars, it is hard to beat the power and sleek lines of the late 60’s vehicles. These characteristics are exactly what makes the 1967 Chevelle so popular to both purist muscle car owners, and also to those with designs on improving an already awesome car. The term Pro-Street is a racing classification, it is a form of custom vehicle typically featuring large cubic inch engines, tube chassis, oversized rear tires, narrowed rear ends, interior roll bars and flashy paint jobs. All of this, while still retaining enough of the stock vehicle to be considered street legal.

The Chevelle model line was available from 1964 all the way through 1977 and was considered part of GM’s A-Body platform.  Super Sport versions of the Chevelle were available from 1964 through 1973. The 1967 model had revisions to the bodywork from earlier year models, these changes gave the Chevelle a longer and a more straight-forward appearance. Coupling the revised exterior with a monster 396 cubic inch power plant that was capable of pushing out 375 hp resulted in a vehicle that now looked great and could out muscle much of what was on the road at the time.  Purists believe the 1969 Chevelle was “perfect” just as it came off the assembly line, others thought it was the perfect basis to push the boundaries of the motoring scene.

For the modeler; This kit features fairly accurate assembly instructions, it is comprised of 150 plastic parts along with 4 rubber tires, two are skinny to be used on the front while the two rear tires are wide, well detailed Firestone’s.  They have also included a paint guide within the instruction sheet so you can replicate the box art if you like. The plastic parts have little flash on them and most pieces fit together well. Molding seams and ejection pin marks are minimal and clean up with a bit of attention from a sanding stick. This is a great box stock kit but it would lend itself equally well to those who like to go all out and super detail their builds. To complete this model as I have you will need: paint, plastic cement, Bare Metal Foil, a hobby knife, sanding sticks and Elmer’s glue (for the windows and lenses). Included in this review you will find slightly modified building sequences and tips on  black wash: exhaust system repair; Alclad use; realistic headers; frame detailing; professional interior detailing; realistic gauge detailing; roll bar sequence changes; trim foiling; painting with nail polish; panel line highlighting; tire detailing; and adhesive selection are all fully examined in this Step-by-Step review.

In 1940, Ford made over 540,000 Coupes. Since then, this car has caught the attention of street rod builders because of the ease of modifications.  This Revell kit has incorporated a lot of good features such as a lowered suspension stance and a detailed modified flathead V8.

For the modeler; this kit is very clean, has very little flashing on the trees, and individual parts fit together quite well.  It requires a little bit of model assembly knowledge because it needs tools to clean the parts.  Glue is also required for assembly.  The parts are unpainted.  If you would like a colorful model, you will need to paint all of the un-chromed pieces.  The instruction sheet does a good job suggesting colors for painting, or you can go on your own as I have done on this build. I chose a basic flat black with red interior for an old time hot rod look.  I also put white walls on the tires to bring a little more appeal to the hot rod look.  I really like this model.  Revell did a very good job with instructions and molding.  I found it a joy to paint and assemble. Construction sequence variations for the cross-member, front suspension, exterior paint, exterior trim parts; cautionary notes for the exhaust and wheel assemblies; paint and detailing of the chassis, interior, and exterior; and instruction errors are all fully examined in this Step-by-Step review.

Review and Photos by Robert Byrnes Robert Byrnes P47 Thumbnail

The Hawk Missile System was a low altitude surface-to-air missile designed to operate in the area below that covered by the Nike Missile.  It was operated by the U.S. Army and introduced to the public in October 1957.  The Hawk’s ability to seek out and destroy enemy aircraft was due to its radically advanced radar system in the missile guidance system.  The Hawk Missile System had a high degree of mobility and could be transported by ground or air-lifted to front line positions.  The Hawk system could be positioned near American cities because its radar system was programmed to avoid recognizable city profiles.  The Hawk Missile was powered by a solid-fuel propellant and could carry several different types of warheads.

For the Modeler: This is a “Selected Subjects Program (SSP)” Series Revell re-issue of the 1:32 Scale Model Kit #85-7813 Review.  It is a Skill Level 2 kit for the intermediate builder.  The kit contains 103 parts molded in light grey, with waterslide decals and a crew of four.  This kit was first produced by Renwal Blueprint Models sometime in the 1960’s.  After Renwal went out of business in 1970, Revell purchased much of their tooling around 1976 and began to reproduce many of the kits including the Hawk Missile. This kit features three Hawk missiles, complete mobile radar and missile trailers, four crew member figures and decals with authentic U.S. Army graphics.  Finished dimensions are; Height: 6.5″ (including launcher), Dia., 0.5”. Full kit; Length: 8.5″, Width: 6.125″, Height: 4.375″.  Keep learning and have fun.

Covered in this Review:  If you want to perfect your build; basic construction; part preparation; decal preparation and  application; parting line identification and repair; altered assembly sequences for ease of construction and paint protection; adhesive selection and applications; patching sink marks in the figures; detailing the figures; missile paint selections; using floor polish to prepare for decal application; preserving the flat finish; using pastels for detailing; expanded 1:1 Hawk System information; identifying and removing molding trademarks, are all fully examined in this pictorial 15 page, full-color Step-by-Step review in PDF format.  The kit instructions are also available with this review.
