The Monogram Tom Daniel Badman 1955 Chevy dragster is a “gasser” style kit and is bursting with nostalgia. In their heyday, the “gasser” style dragsters ruled the quarter mile not just on looks, but on performance as well. The “Bad-Man” 1955 Chevy was no different with its straight front axle, hefty ladder bar-enhanced rear suspension and full-on race motor replete with a roots style blower.

Despite the kit’s few shortcomings, this re-release of the old Monogram tool has a genuine likeability that most modelers of our age group not only understand but appreciate. Could it be that many of us simply enjoy the memories we hold dear from kits like this that were part of our childhood? I think so.

For the Modeler: This is a skill level 2 kit with 74 parts total, but beginners shouldn’t have too much trouble assembling this one. Molded in yellow plastic with a single chrome tree, transparent red “glass” and vinyl tires, the limited number of parts makes for a quick build and one you don’t have to paint the body to be able to recreate the box art. This is a pretty basic kit that looks great right out of the box but there are a few tings that should be considered when making this model. Managing the fit of the header assemblies; the ladder bar attachment; and the incorrect engine type are all fully examined in this Step-by-Step review.

As one of the Monogram Dream Rides Series, this 1/24 scale 1970 Buick GSX helps me relive the halcyon days of the pure muscle car. Even though this was a Buick it had a simple interior and a massive 455 cubic inch V-8. There was no mistake though, if one these bad boys pulled up next to you at the light – the awesome blacked out hood and spear graphics were a sign that this car meant straight forward business!

For the Modeler: This kit builds very well despite the age of the tooling and the few problems I’ll address in the review, it should be suitable for all builders. I would give this kit 7 out of 10 stars. I would and probably will build this kit again. Although Revell did a great job cleaning up this re-release and there is very little flash to be found, authentic body and engine colors are discussed; manifold identification; modified suspension assembly sequence for proper fit; modifying the exhaust mounts for fit; foiling the interior; instruction clarifications; detailing the blacked-out hood; altering the assembly sequence to facilitate finish painting; detailing the rear bumper; and spoiler/decal alignment are all fully examined in this Step-by-Step review.

Viper RT10 000

There was hardly anyone in the world of autos whose heart didn’t skip a beat when Dodge in coordination with Carroll Shelby released the Viper RT/10. With stunning good looks and a 400 horsepower V-10 aluminum engine you could get all that – and it was street legal to boot. Revell captures the details well in this rendition of the Viper Roadster.

For the Modeler: This is a 72 piece skill level 2 kit with remnants of a previous life as a SnapTite model. That does not detract from the model but actually makes it a pretty easy build. The parts were flash-free and engineered to fit together well. An altered assembly sequence; chrome stripping; mold seams; injection mark locations; using BMF as a mask; engine detailing; adding black washes for detail; part modification for ease of assembly; correcting the rear axles; detailing the springs for realism; making the dash standout with black wash; interior color selection; dull coating decals; and easy painting of the window frame are all fully examined in this Step-by-Step review.
