A while back I did a review of Revell’s newly re-issued Ford Bronco 2-n-1 kit (click here for the Step-by-Step Review). For being an older kit it built up quite nicely. Other than some simplified assemblies, you wouldn’t have known that this was a 30 yr. old tooling. In the review I mentioned how the Bronco could be built up in a number of ways: A police vehicle, a EMS/Rescue first responder truck, Beach Patrol, Mud Bogger, etc. So, I decided to make another Bronco and build it into one of these special variations, giving me “artistic license†to do what I wanted.
For the Modeler: If you’re going to take on a scratch building project like this, just remember to take a lot of measurements, and do a lot of research. Sketch out a few things first to give you a visual of what you are shooting for. I actually had built another camper for this project, but poor planning made it look awkward when it was on the back of the truck, so it was back to the drawing board. I hope this build will inspire you to step out of the norm and do something different!

Timeline 1977: “A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away…..’ When the movie “Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope†hit the theaters on May 25, 1977 this 27 year old adult/kid thought this was the best movie to be released in quite a while. I was raised on the Sci-Fi of the early to mid ‘50’s, so this taps right into that concept. The story is basically, Luke Skywalker leaves his home planet, teams up with other rebels, and tries to save Princess Leia from the evil clutches of Darth Vader.
This Revell Star Wars X-34 Landspeeder kit #85-1874 SnapTite kit, is pre-decorated/painted/weathered and consists of 40 individual parts including pre-painted figures. The figures alone are worth the price of admission! Even though this kit is rated Skill Level 1 for ages 8 years +, I highly recommend this kit for any of you Star Wars fans. A beautiful piece for your collection, little kid or big kid! During assembly, I chose to glue the parts rather than just snap them together, it’s more permanent that way to me. I also chose to paint the base in a light tan color to replicate a sand color such as in the movie. There were no fit or assembly issues at all.
Remember, this is a hobby, keep it fun and enjoyable.

For years the ’40 Ford has been a favorite of hotrodders and customizers in any and all body styles, and the pickup variation is no exception. This kit, although not a true 2n1 allowing the builder two distinct versions (stock or custom), there are enough components and options to satisfy the cravings of both types of builder.
For the Modeler: This model builds up into a great display piece with working doors and windows but there are a few things that can be done to make it easier. Door assembly, door hinge construction, modified steering mast location, modifying a bracket for the oil filter, and an alternate bumper location are fully detailed in this review.
