The Tamiya 1/24 Sports Car Series No. 250 Subaru Impreza WRC 2001 Rally of Great Britain The Impreza is a very nice kit to work with. It is highly detailed. Everything fits very well. The body is one piece with a four piece rear spoiler. Its a curbside kit so there is no engine to do. The chassis is done very well. It sports a detailed four wheel drive system. The rear suspension is made up of a 3 seven piece strut suspension with disc brakes. The front suspension is a strut suspension with disc brakes and is poseable. The wheels are pre-painted gold and have internal pins to hold them on the car. The interior has great detail and features two Recaro racing seats, a ten point roll cage, and a racing dash. The kit also comes with a driver and a co-driver figure. The bodies of the figures of the body are made of vinyl and have to be super glued together. There are extra arms for the driver if you want the front wheels turned right or left you would use them to show that the driver is turning the steering wheel. The heads of the figures are plastic and very well detailed. There are metal transfers to use on the mirrors. The windows are a one piece part. Tamiya gives you masks to cover the windshield and rear window so you can paint the shaded areas. Overall, this is another great kit from Tamiya. The only thing I didn’t care for is after all the detail work you have done on the chassis you have to put skid plates and they cover all of the work you put in to it.

Introduced mid-year in 1964, the Ford Mustang caused a sensation that continues today with a band of loyal followers.  The Mustang was something car buyers had never seen, a sports car for everyone!  At a base price of only $2,368, average car buyers could get behind the wheel.  The cost for the Mustang was the brainchild of Ford General Manager Lee Iacocca.  He knew buyers were looking for excitement that wasn’t too expensive.  In addition, the Mustang had a long list of options and could be tailored to the customer’s desire.  There were three body styles to choose from and a wide variety of engines and accessories.

For the modeler: This kit is very clean, has very little flashing on the trees, and individual parts fit together quite well.  It requires a little bit of model assembly knowledge because you need tools to clean the parts.  Glue is also required for assembly.  The parts are unpainted.  If you would like a colorful model, you will need to paint all of the non-chromed pieces.  The instruction sheet does a good job suggesting colors for painting, or you can go on your own as I have done on this build. A nice still needs some special details to get the most out of your build. Follow along as we discuss; interior, exterior and engine period correct color schemes; adjusting the exhaust for fit; tire/wheel assembly sequence; are all fully examined in this 7 page, full-color Step-by-Step review.

Harley-Davidson was right when they named this bike a “classic”. It had plenty of power and comfort to tackle the open road. Some people might not think a snap kit is worth building so my goal was to show that these kits can be great “curbside” builds or a foundation for a custom bike build. One thing you can’t ignore is that the pieces are substantially more stout than a glue kit, and that really is a nice benefit of these kits. Due to the nature of the kit, that’s understandable, but it really is a bonus for the advanced modeler who will find these parts easier to work with (less frail than glue kits) or to use with other custom cycle projects.

For the Modeler: This kit came molded in black and gray, and included chrome parts and clear, amber, and red parts for the windshield and lenses. Rubber tires and spark plug wires are also included. The parts are detailed and there were no problems with flash, and only a couple of issues with specific parts that will be addressed within this review. Overall, this turned out to be a nice kit and with some time and attention, it’s hard to tell this was a SnapTite kit. It’s sitting proudly on my shelf next to non-Snap models and they don’t seem to mind. Perfecting this build will take some advance knowledge that you will find in this review. Effective detailing for the brake rotors; using a mask to paint the tire white walls; using metalizers and silver shades for contrast; creating an epoxy glass lens; tutone paint masking methods; realistic saddlebag details; flash removal; snap fit augmentation; removing unwanted chrome; using metalizer paints; engine detailing; applying bare metal foil for realism; decal preparation; using blackwash to make the chrome details standout; fixing warped parts; are fully discussed in this full-color 19 page tutorial review. As a bonus this kit’s instructions are available as part of this review.
