The Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-21 (NATO reporting name “Fishbed”) is a supersonic jet fighter aircraft, designed by the Mikoyan-Gurevich Design Bureau in the Soviet Union. It was popularly nicknamed “balalaika”, from the aircraft’s plane form-view resemblance to the Russian stringed musical instrument or ołówek (English: pencil) by Polish pilots due to the shape of its fuselage. Some 50 countries over four continents have flown the MiG-21, and it still serves many nations a half-century after its maiden flight. The fighter made aviation records. At least by name, it is the most-produced supersonic jet aircraft in aviation and the most-produced combat aircraft since the Korean War, and it had the longest production run of a combat aircraft (1959 to 1985 over all variants).
For the Modeler: The Revell MiG-21PF model kit has been around for over 35+ years. This was a pleasant modeling experience at Revell’s Skill 2 Level. It was generally an easy kit to build and it came with Russian and Indian markings. I decided to use the India Air Force Markings. Construction sequence changes and finishing tip help turn this simple kit into a nice display piece.

The Hudson Hornet with its “Twin H Power” and step down design chassis was the car to beat in NASCAR competition back in the early 50’s and now Model King has reproduced the one that Tim Flock drove to the championship in 1952 for us to build. I sat down to give it a go recently and here is what I found. My overall impressions of this kit are quite positive. This is a nicely engineered kit of a new and interesting subject that does require some care and patience but will reward your efforts.
For the Modeler: – Overall most hobbyists find the new Moebius/Model King kits are really nice builds with modern tooling; but no kit is perfect. Construction modifications to contact points, use of washes, wheel assembly tips, section fillers, filling unneeded mounting points and body features, detailing the exhaust tips, a driveshaft procedure, radiator fit adjustments, window removal and color selections are all fully discussed in this extensive review.
This model is an award winner already having taken a bronze medal at the annual Mid-Michigan Model Makers Contest. Only a few days later this model recieved a first place box stock award at the Rickenbaker Club Contest in Columbus Ohio!

The newly re-issued Monogram 1/24th scale ’64 Pontiac GTO 2n1 in the “Classic Cruisers” edition has actually been around for some time. I remember building it “back in the day” so this build was somewhat of a refresher course for me. I was anxious to see how it would stand up to today’s newly-tooled kits. This kit can be built as either a stock or street machine version. Since I’m a stock aficionado, I chose the former version for my build.
For the Modeler: – Â The more I worked on this kit, the more I was impressed with the quality of fit and finish, despite the age of the tooling. This is probably, in my humble opinion, one of the best engineered and designed kits I’ve built from Revell/Monogram. In terms of fit and finish, this kit definitely deserves a perfect 5-star rating from me. In fact, I believe this kit would be ideal for the beginning modeler who currently builds only snap kits and wishes to venture into the realm of glue kits. I highly recommend this kit for beginning and intermediate modelers (such as myself) for an enjoyable and trouble-free experience, and I wouldn’t hesitate to build it again.
